"Persephone Vitrac, queen of the werewolves! Watch out this full moon!" -Amira Zidane

Persephone Astrid Hyland Vitrac is a "pureblood " witch and known werewolf, the only child of Psyche Winter Bennet-Hyland and Viktor Hyland. She was raised in England, despite her family being German.

Persephone always knew she was a witch, though there was debate over which school she would attend. Finally, her parents settled on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She began attending Hogwarts in 2020 and was sorted into Slytherin house before graduating in 2027.

((OOC Notice: This is a work in progress for a current character. As such, the following information is not all available to use in character if not apparent public knowledge or obtained in character, with the exception of the rumours section.))

Biography[]

Family lineage[]

The family of Psyche Bennet is a well-respected pureblood family in England with an odd tradition of naming their female children after Greek goddesses. They are considered high society, often hosting and attending galas with other pure-blood families and using these social events to network and even arrange marriages.

The Hyland family is a respected upper-class pure-blood family, well known within Germany. It's rumoured however that there is a muggle or two within the family tree, though Persephone's grandparents deny this up and down. The fact of the matter is that this rumour is in fact true. It is because of this that the family left Germany, retreating to England where this is unknown.

Viktor Hyland, the oldest of the Hyland siblings, was a Slytherin in his own time at Hogwarts, as was his wife, Psyche. It was there that they met, Viktor being the older of the two. Viktor is a stern man, keeping his emotions within, save for his anger. Psyche on the other hand is a very emotional woman, prone to fits of melancholy and near catatonic states.

Early life (2009-2020)[]

Persephone was born in 2009 to Viktor Hyland and Psyche Winter Bennet. The two were both very controlling, each in their own way. Viktor was constantly holding the young girl to high expectations, expecting her to be a shining example of mental and magical prowess. Viktor was a father who never showed anything but his anger, constantly pushing Perse to be the best academically and magically. She could deal with the angry German man. But her mother... Psyche's interests were more based in social and societal expectations as she would drag Persephone along to her social engagements, ensuring the girl was on her best behaviour, as well as tutoring the girl in what she considered to be proper hobbies such as ballet and singing lessons. Persephone could never tell what to expect of Psyche. Some days she would find her in a white silk shift, pale hair hanging limply as she stared out the window for hours. Some days Psyche would notice her, turning to face Persephone and beckoning her over sweetly... before yanking her hair, cursing her for something she did at the last gala. This lead Persephone to feeling stifled as a child, always trying to live up to what her parents expected of her.

Persephone was always a rather whimsical child, often losing herself in books of poetry and Greek mythology—two things that became a passion for her. She was also rather taken with Quidditch, her favourite team being the Holyhead Harpies, mostly because of their all female status. Persephone doesn't speak much about her birth parents or what they do for a living, rarely even mentioning where she grew up at.

At the least, Persephone was able to stand up to the Hyland expectations with her first display of magic occurring early at the age of four. While throwing a tantrum, a young Persephone managed to cause small explosive fireworks to go off in her nursery.

Years later, after Persephone turned eleven, a letter arrived for her inviting her to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Viktor and Psyche spent a lot of time discussing whether she would attend there or go to Durmstrang, before a decision was made. Psyche won the argument, saying Hogwarts was an excellent school and attendance there was something to be proud of.

Hogwarts years[]

First year (2020-2021)[]

Upon coming of Hogwarts age, Persephone was still the pressured mess her parents had made her. This made it surprising when she found her first wand at Ollivanders, a 13 3/4 inch Dogwood with Dragon Heartstring core. Dogwood spoke of a mischievous and whimsical nature, something her parents had mostly pressured her not to be, but she was assured that wands didn't lie.

Seph spent most of the time on the Hogwarts Express worrying about which house she would be Sorted into. With both her parents being Slytherin, she couldn't imagine what would happen if she got put into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. The Sorting Hat however, wasted no time placing her into Slytherin due to her cunning and ambition. Percy may not have seen these traits in herself but the hat certainly did.

Persephone's first year was the year Headmistress Fischer was appointed. She spent the year enthusiastically watching the Triwizard tournament. That is, until Headmistress Fischer seemed to vanish. After that, there was cursed objects, magic nullifying frogs, and a possessed Professor Digby. Most of this, Persephone stayed on the sidelines watching, being far too stressed and pressured to stay out of trouble. Come the end of the year, she'd completely broken down, having a panic attack and ultimately deciding she couldn't stand up to her father's expectations and still be herself.

Second year (2021-2022)[]

Persephone's second year was also quite eventful. This was the year of the Hag and Zimelda Zemeckis. She watched as things escalated, students being attacked, people going missing within Hogsmeade. Where other students became more paranoid and distrusting, Persephone began to bloom this year, seeking out trouble wherever she could. With Zemeckis taking over potions, she became more and more interested in the subject, even with the woman teaching far more advanced potions than she could successfully make.

This was also the year Seph learned of the Wideye Potion, and briefly spent time substituting sleep with the potion. Taking advantage of the wide awake state to explore the castle and learn the secret passageways and rooms.

The year ended with Persephone spending her Summer in Brighton Bay with her cousin Eric who would be starting his first year upon the end of summer. The Summer was rather eventful with dragons and ministry face downs, but ultimately the time ended without much trouble.

Third Year (2022-2023)[]

Persephone's third year started off as usual, with the girl making friends easily and attending classes enthusiastically. She also tended to receive quite a bit of Howlers due to the trouble she got into. Headmistress Fischer's decline in health at the hands of Zemeckis's Rescendio Vitae curse, cast during their confrontation during the previous year, made the year once again start with quite a bit of rumours.

Persephone was still somewhat oblivious to the goings on around the school, including the formation of T.B.H.S., SERPEN, and the Ouroboros. That is, until the rumours started going around. She made quick friends with third year John Penn and first year Varius Corvus, often springing to the firstie's defense. It was also through John that Persephone met Gwenaderin Ferox. Though the two of them had a few rocky first meetings, Persephone found herself crushing on the feisty Ravenclaw and thus joining her secret study group to see her more often.

During the third year, Persephone got into quite a lot of altercations, ranging from quick duels and violent physical fights, one of which leaving her bald after the fight. There were also rumours she was involved with putting Blair ShadowFang in the hospital wing with bad burns. This year the girl made a long list of enemies.

Persephone took Gwen on her first date and school dance at February's Hearty Party. The two developed a somewhat rocky relationship over the invitation, a poem Persephone had written and had published in the Owl Post's Cupid's Corner. This relationship quickly became something Persephone valued dearly. The event was interupted  by Judy Dorchester and her team of Ministry cronies, who promptly took control of Hogwarts.

This made the study group, which Gwen named LUNA, all the more important. An acronym for "Luminaries United for Necessary Action," LUNA functions using a system of secret numerical codes for arranging meetings.

It was also during this year that Persephone landed a spot on the Slytherin Quidditch team as a beater for the team.

After realizing the Owl Post couldn't be relied on for getting out news without endangering those running the post, Persephone took it upon herself to look into Wizard Radio Broadcasting. As if she was being watched, a few days later all the equipment she needed appeared on her bed with a note saying: Unite. Be Patient. Spread the word.

Before long, Dark Moon Radio took off, broadcasting in every common room on radios stolen from the music teacher. And as quickly as they started, they stopped. For a week or so at least. That was the week Persephone lost track of time and found herself on the grounds near the forest on the night of the Full Moon. The attack was brutal, leaving many details missing from Seph's mind, only her affliction, her broken wand, and the fresh silvery scars that riddled her body as reminders. She spent a week in the hospital wing where silver and dittany was applied and her condition was explained to her. Her parents were notified and without hesitation they were quick to strike her from the family tree, claiming she had died in the attack. At this time, Persephone knew nothing about the wolf who attacked her (Later identified as Eleanor Lovelace), about who was there to save her, or about anything else.

A week before Persephone's first full moon, werewolf hunters arrived on Hogwarts grounds at the behest of Dorchester. With the help of her friends and Professors Green and Wibault, she was able to stay out of sight. That didn't mean the trouble was over though. During this time Gwen Ferox began to hermit in the Ravenclaw tower, ignoring all the letters and even howlers Persephone sent out. John Penn and Varius Corvus were both pulled from school and Persephone began to feel more alone than ever.

Throughout the year, students began to go missing and delicious Hogwarts meals were replaced with flavourless gruel. Calls were made for obedience and reformation by the goons, leaving a bitter taste in Persephone's mouth. All the more strange was the goon who had taken over Transfiguration, a strange man by the name of Ironfist, with a penchant for fire. While other students put two and two together that Ironfist and the Shade were missing the same hand, this detail was lost on the conspiracy obsessed Persephone who was determined that Dorchester was the true evil master mind.

By the time June came around, Dorchester announced that both Headmistress Fischer and Deputy Headmaster Fox were dead during an assembly and that she would be taking over Hogwarts' leadership position indefinitely. Nonetheless, during her speech Headmistress Fischer appeared from seemingly nowhere and a duel ensued. Once Dorchester was defeated, it was noticed that Ironfist was missing. Soon after, Inferi began to appear everywhere.

During this great spectacle, Persephone retreated to one of LUNA's many hidden locations, her personal favourite, a secret room she used to record DMR broadcasts. While she had been on board with outing the conspiracy, the actual fighting had left the girl frightened.

After the inferi were defeated, however, the remaining school year was completed in peace.

Fourth Year (2023-2024)[]

During her Fourth year Persephone had become quite different. Even with Fischer and Fox having returned, the girl had become mistrustful and paranoid. Briefly, she got close with fifth year Slytherin,Tristan Geovauden, the two became fast friends, though they argued just as much as they got along. Their friendship ended with quite a bit of drama though after a while they were able to reconcile.

Most of Persephone's fourth year was full of the usual school drama, the year utterly devoid of any nefarious plots to over take the school. Early on she made friends with known troublemaker, Adam Fletcher. Throughout the year Fletcher became progressively more troublesome, though Persephone stood by his side throughout it all, even after he made their friendship significantly more complicated. Through many awkward snogs and broken noses, Fletcher became one of Persephone's very best friends.

Throughout the year, Percy went through many relationships, the longest and most prominent one being her relation with Ignatious Leander Ashworth III, the sixth year Slytherin. Their relationship was a tangled mess due to his many siblings' interference and his overbearing mother's disapproval, and eventually it came to an end. Despite this, Persephone remained very close friends with the boy even after their break up.

It was through this relationship that Persephone's involvement with Aryiana Novelli began. Aryiana Novelli began as something of a loose friend, a girl who had several things in common with Persephone. One of those things being their dating of Ashworths, another being the girls' status as a werewolf. More often than not Aryiana would try to assert dominance over Persephone, something the already short tempered girl would not stand for. At the convincing of the two eldest Ashworth boys Persephone severed her ties with Novelli, but not before being introduced to Sylvain Finley-Vitrac who would later become a close friend of Persephone before his family adopted her into their own during Winter Break.

So, Persephone returned to Hogwarts, now sporting the last name 'Vitrac'. It wasn't long before Gwenaderin Ferox once more showed her face, having heard of Persephone's relationships throughout the year via Percy's briefest fling, Sahian Drago. The two girls entered a bitter rivalry over the affections of Gwen that lasted for the rest of the school year.

Luckily, Percy had one of her newfound friends, the veela Saffron Foxclaw to see her through the hard time. Saffron had become a close friend through Fletcher, often offering the younger Slytherin advice and a listening ear. Percy came to look up to the girl, even if she thought her tastes in men was SEVERELY lacking.

Most of that year remained uneventful, save for the delivery of a single stone with Ouroboros' symbol to Gwen. This actually solidified their friendship once more as Persephone did whatever it took to ensure the girl she cared about was safe. Ultimately, however, nothing appeared to come of it.

Persephone was also in the school performance of Babbity Rabbity where she played the Captain of the Guard.

Summer[]

Over the Summer, Persephone moved out of the main house in Vitrac Village, taking up a small cottage on her own. Her summer was primarily happy, spent with her now adopted brother, Sylvain, her cousin, Leandre, and many visits to her Hufflepuff friend, Jack Darzi. This spurred a small crush on the boy from her, though it was not until after school started that she announced her feelings. Jack accompanied her to America on holiday with her family. Each child was allowed to bring one friend so Percy chose Jack. For a brief period of time, Persephone's close friend Marzia Sterling spent some time in Vitrac Village with her.

It was over the Summer that Persephone made up her mind, inspired by Sylvain and Gwen to focus on her school work and her future. Just because she was a werewolf, did not mean that she didn't have one ahead of her. She received the news of being appointed the position of Prefect for house Slytherin and that strengthened her resolve. She also discovered a new love of Herbology and took to it.

Additional events Persephone attended: Hiking with Saffron, Beach with Saffron, and the Ashworth Summer Gala.

Fifth Year (2024-2025)[]

Fifth year started out calmly. With her decision to focus on school and her future, Persephone delved into her grades with confidence and determination. This year she was sporting a shiny Prefect badge,as well as the positions of Quidditch Captain and Owl Post Editor, all of which left her feeling an already accomplished and ambitious Slytherin. Her friendship with Jack Darzi was flourishing and the two attempted a date during the Halloween Bash, spent carving pumpkins in the Owl Post office.

Dhampir[]

Unfortunately, Hogwarts has never been a peaceful place and this year was to be no different than any other. It was during the first week of October that the Banshee  first appeared in the castle, her cries wrecking the Great Hall and warning of death's approach. Persephone had been in the Great Hall when the lights had first started flickering, the approaching full moon and a fight with a friend driving her off to the Dungeons where she was oblivious of the sounds.

Not long after, another incident took place in the courtyard, a massive hole opened up, Acromantula crawling out and dragging children and professors into its depths. During this, Persephone was once more on the other side of the castle, thus missing the ensuing battle.

By Friday 13th students were aware something more was up as students were assaulted one by one by a lone figure in a black cloak. By the end of the week six students in all had joined the tally of the attacked, including two of her own housemates. All of them managed to receive the proper care and were released, but not without suffering mental damage. It was this mental damage that drew the paths of third year Amira Zidane and Persephone Vitrac together.

The first sign was a letter found on Persephone's bed, inviting her to a defense club that would later be known as the Slytherin dueling club. Of course, Persephone didn't think much of the invite from a third year, even showing skepticism that it wasn't some sort of trap or prank.

The tension and fear around the castle continued to amplify, this atmosphere leading to paranoia and panic. It was in this atmosphere that a student played a prank upon Amira. Being the only Prefect in the area, Persephone was instructed to escort Amira to the Hospital Wing and, being the softie inside that she was, Percy took the time to comfort the younger girl. Soon after, chocolates appeared on her bed, accompanied with a thank you note.

After the arrival of the Vampire Society of Great Britain, one of the investigators found herself assaulted. The students were crammed into the Great Hall and Persephone's suspicions, lead by diary entries left around the castle, were confirmed that the dhampir was in fact Miles. As the lights went out, the being appeared, threatening the school once more. Spying Amira on a table nearby, paralysed with fear, Persephone climbed atop the table and held her hand the entire time, only leaving to calm down a fellow house mate. That night, Miles died, his horrible reign of terror ended abruptly.

Winter Ball[]

Soon, things calmed down once more and Persephone began to be courted by Rylan Worthington, agreeing to attend the ball. Having been invited to an outting of trying on dresses, Persephone joined Saffron, Marzia Sterling, and Aisling Jones enjoyed a wonderful evening.

As the ball arrived, Persephone wore a beautiful sparkly blue dress and Rylan accented his tux with matching colours. They danced and enjoyed the night together before slipping off to the Owl Post for conversation and escape from the crowds.

Christmas break was spent split up between time with Saffron, home for the holidays, and at the Ashworths' for their usual gala. During that time Persephone and Gwen corresponded by Owl until Saffron's Gala where the veela tried to push the pair together once more. This lead ultimately to the rift between Persephone and Rylan, one that was never quite repaired. Persephone had only been at school for one day when she learned that there had been another attack the same night upon a child in Hogsmeade. It was assumed to be a one time thing, the monster never confirmed to be a werewolf. As the month went on, nothing seemed to come up again until...

January 31st, 2025[]

As Persephone struggled with the upheaval of her romantic life, Marzia suggested they all sneak out on the full moon, having a picnic and watching the eclipse. Having shared the news of her affliction with Aisling when the pair bonded over surviving vicious attacks, Persephone invited her and another friend of hers to watch it in the snow covered Forbidden Forest. For once, she would be enjoying the full moon without being locked behind bars in the 'Werewolf Tower' or as she had dubbed it 'The Kennel'.

The group met up in the clock tower and without hesitation, snuck out, setting up a warm camp with a fire, blankets, and food. Marzia settled and began to tell a story to take Persephone's mind off the pain... when it happened.

'As black as night.'- Eleanor Lovelace

Marzia's story had been interrupted by debate of how a werewolf's coat colour is decided when Persephone described the wolf who had attacked her. With piercing blue eyes and fur as black as night, the wolf was a stark difference from Persephone's own form. It was then that the woman in her filthy tatted robe appeared, reeking of earth and blood. There is only one other thing this woman said that Persephone remembers. "My, how you've grown." Persephone knew then and there that this was the wolf who'd attacked her. Persephone, lost in her own transformation was helpless as the woman cast crucio upon her friends. The woman had only resisted a fraction of a second longer than Persephone, but it had been enough. However, not even Lovelace could resist the call of the moon. As the pair both shifted, the woman lunged at Aisling and Marzia, though quickly lost interest in the former as she shifted into her animagus form. Lovelace mauled Marzia, Persphone doing her best to fight the larger wolf off with Aisling's assistance, but it wasn't until the search party found them that the woman gave up her attempts to sink her teeth into flesh. Marzia was saved and O'Keeffe escorted her and the others back inside, Persephone however was left to spend the night in DracheBlume's hut.

Life continued at Hogwarts, though the group of friends had been forever changed. The bond between Persephone and Aisling grew stronger, though Persephone blamed herself for the harm that everyone, especially Marzia endured that night. Their newly formed sisterhood proved needed as the year continued on. As Lovelace's attacks continued on, students at the school became vocalled anti-werewolf, including Amira Zidane, once friend to Persephone. As posters began to liter the hallway walls with either hatred or support for the school's werewolves, Persephone found her anger growing into something toxic.

As winter turned to spring, the Hearty Party passed and the first of many students, this time, Hufflepuff Thomasin Sexton, found herself attacked by Eleanor Lovelace. Thomasin would not have survived her attack if she had not been found by Professor Dracheblume. Students began to become worried and scared, warned by professors not to go out alone. During this time, Lovelace attempted to access the castle several times, leaving clawed gouges in the doors as evidence of her presence.

Spring[]

Due to the attacks on yet another student and residents of Hogsmeade both on and off the full moon, former CoMC Professor turned Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures Head, Lucifer Gillespie was stationed in the school as extra security. Tensions rose around the school as more and more anti-werewolf propaganda began to appear, and only Aisling, Marzia, and Nessa's comforting presences and support helped see Persephone through this time. That is... until Lia and Nessa were both attacked, the former having set out to meet Perse for a picnic and the latter having happened upon the scene. This was the first time Lovelace seemed to be attempting to take students away from the school and was another attack Persephone placed the blame upon herself for. Puzzle pieces began to fall into place as March continued however with an article being found about the attack of one Eleanor Lovelace, the very werewolf attacking them, though her name was unknown at this time.  It was also in March that Persephone and Fletcher's friendship very nearly came to an end. After he insensitively asked if it was her behind the attacks, the two ended up getting into a verbal altercation which quickly transformed into a duel. After an exchanging of dangerous spells and harsh words, Fletcher attempted to cast sectumsempra on Persephone. It was only Lia stepping between the two that stopped the spell from hitting Persephone, instead placing Lia in the Hospital Wing. "I wish it was you." Fletcher had told her. Despite this, Persephone took the blame, later making up her mind to obliviate the situation, and Fletcher, from her memory. Fortunately, she never acted on this decision.

Week after week, more and more negative articles began to appear in the Daily Prophet, each one vehemently anti-werewolf and by April, it became known that wolfsbane stock was dwindling, due to attacks on inventory deliveries. With this knowledge, Professor DracheBlume began to grow wolfsbane for the wolves within the school, relying on students to assist, though it was sabotaged several times. It was also in April that Amira Zidane outted Persephone as a werewolf. This was the final straw, along with the appearance of a mysterious rock, that drew Persephone to attempt to poison Amira. With the Ouroboros Stone in her possession, Persephone set out to steal wolfsbane seed, bake cookies with it, and then forged a note, leaving the cookies on Amira's bed. The girl then shared them with friends at a party, leading to a large amount of students nearly dying. Persephone was never caught.

That week, several things happened. Students were spotted being led into the forest by Lovelace. An attempt to find them led to a disastrous meeting with the Centaurs and the students barred from the grounds near the forest. One of these students to go missing was Lysander Diaval, one of the few housemates Persephone had considered to be a friend before going missing. After being asked to find him by his exgirlfriend, Persephone looked everywhere, but it was only after his return, with no memory of what happened, that she found him. From that moment, Persephone and Lye slowly began to become close.

As the end of May arrived, the werewolf registration act was enacted and a great many students and even the Hufflepuff head of house were noticed to be missing. During a Sunday Lunch speech, Deputy Headmistress O'Keefe announced two things: One, that she and Headmaster Fox would be leaving the castle to speak with the Minister, leaving the Heads of Houses in charge, and Two, that if the students missing were not found, Hogwards would be shut down. This sent the school into something of a panic, especially Persephone as she realised Lysander was once again missing. Despite taking her concerns to her Head of House, Rodgaut Mordus, he dismissed her concerns. Of course, at the time, he was packing his belongings to leave before Hogwarts was shut down. Filled with rage at Mordus, Persephone left the school, setting out to find Lysander. What she found instead, was Eleanor Lovelace in a cave of wolves. Wolves that had once been students and were now under her control. Though Persephone initially sought to offer herself in place of the other students, Lovelace's words spurred her fury and she ended up in a verbal spar with the witch. This ended with Lovelace casting Sectumsempra and severing Persephone's leg. After casting a well placed smokescreen spell, Persephone was able to crawl from the cave where centaurs found her and took her back to the school. Due to the loss of blood, Persephone fell unconscious and has little memory of anything until Saffron arrived at the school with prosthetics for the girl.

Aisling, Nessa, and Marzia all did their best to help Persephone adjust to having one leg. Aisling even painted several of the prosthetics made for her in a variety of patterns and colours. Despite all of this, Persephone was not exempt from the OWLs. That didn't stop her though as she managed to pull all O's, save for a D in Astronomy, and an E in Charms. The rest of this time was spent attempting to recover from her trama. That year, she did win Most Exemplary Slytherin in the 2024-2025 yearbook  and, after some nervous flirting, decided to pursue a relationship with Lysander.

Summer[]

Over the Summer, Marzia moved in with Persephone, the two finding a home of their own where they could support one another after everything they had been through together. It was during this time that Persephone began to consider a career as a wandcrafter as well. Most of the summer was spent trying to relax and getting to know Lysander as he was now officially her boyfriend though towards the end tensions began to rise between them due to the interferance due to her lingering friendship with ex, Ignatious.

Sixth Year (2025-2026)[]

Persephone's sixth year was largely uneventful, at least as far as any big bads attempting to take over the school. Primarily, fall went well, starting with Persephone as Prefect once again. Unfortunately, during this time, Persephone and Lysander were not actually together, having chosen to take a break and thus the Halloween Ball was more or less skipped by Persephone. Instead, she kept her focus in Quidditch, making Cary her cocaptain and focusing on the first years that had joined.

Eventually, Persephone and Lysander reconciled and by the Winter Fete, put together by Aisling and Archie and run by the Prefects, the pair were back together. At the Fete, Persephone ran a kissing booth- or specifically a "Kiss a Wolf" booth. It was here that Persephone had her first conversation with what would become one of her best friends and potential romantic partner, Bonnie Nishi. Despite Persephone willingly giving smooches to visitors to the booth, one boy took it upon himself to force a kiss on Persephone. The boy grabbed her against her will and leaned her back for a kiss, spurring on not only Persephone's rage, but that of several girls around the booth, Bonnie included. After this, the Ravenclaw in question sought out Persephone and offered to make her a prosthetic leg, catching Persephone off guard.

As the Winter Ball approached, Persephone and Lye coordinated their outfits, arriving in matching mint green attire with mistletoe accents. Persephone was surprised to have been voted Most Likely to Become Minister of Magic for the Winter Ball awards and it added to the magic that was that night. For the first time in her time at Hogwarts, Persephone truly enjoyed everything about a school ball.

Over Winter Break, Persephone and Marzia brought their boyfriends back to their home, spending the entirety of the winter break together. This is one of Persephone's fondest memories, made even better by the dinner at Lia's they had. Not only did Lia and Fletch gift her tickets to a Holyhead Harpies game, but Lysander had managed to obtain a Holyhead Harpies jersey, signed by the members of the team. Both gifts were well received, even if the Harpies ended up losing the game.

The rest of the year proved to be fairly uneventful, at least until the Ministry arrived to arrest Headmaster Fox. Persephone was not present for this and only heard what happened second hand, but from her understanding, he was being brought in for obstruction of justice. Fox escaped however and soon rumours spread about what happened.

Time passed and Persephone learned of her best friend's engagement, Aisling choosing to limit who she told so as not to distract from the festivities. Unfortunately, no one had much time to celebrate at the End of the Year Feast. A large black dragon's roar echoed about the castle, interrupting everything in usual bad guy fashion. Professors went to take charge of the situation whilst students focused on protecting one another. Still, the castle fell- both the Ravenclaw and Astronomy towers crashing down and taking out the viaduct and the bell towers sustained a great deal of fire damage. The dragon had been sent by Umbrae and upon the group's arrival, the call to evacuate the castle went out. Unfortunatelly, before anyone could leave, the all clear was given and with it... news of Headmaster Fox's death. He had given his life to protect the castle with a spell powered by his very life force.

This news left Persephone in shock, and through out the train ride home the next day... Persephone remained silent.

Summer[]

Summer started with Aisling and Archie's Engagement party at Brighton Beach, which despite being a happy event, ended in Persephone and Lysander breaking up once more. Persephone spent much of the summer, dealing with overwhelming emotional issues and pressure from her ex's family, something which she found to be quite draining. It also served to distract her from the summer work experience she had applied to do with the Auror department- inspired by Fox's sacrifice. Despite this, it was Persephone who worked with the Aurors when a fire was set at Headmaster Fox's Memorial Service. The summer also served to bring Persephone and Bonnie closer together as the two had chosen the same work experience options. The two made a magnificent team, attending a Rave undercover with their Mentor's approval. A rave that ended up being a set up. Much like what had happened at school a year before, several attendees were transfigured into wolves and set about attacking Rave goers. Bonnie and Persephone worked together to protect those around them until the aurors officially arrived.

Then came the Quidditch World Cup. Despite being very English, Persephone spent the event  cheering for Ireland from the First Class Section. It was here that Persephone's starstruck nature showed itself as she fangirled over Myles O'Murphy and Darragh Daly in particular, even managing to receive the latter's jersey. As Summer came to an end, Persephone realised that she loved Lysander, and needed to do whatever it took to repair their relationship. She also realised, she was not cut out to be an auror.

It was also over Summer that Persephone discovered the news of her biological father's death at the hands of Agron Mordushku.

Seventh Year (2026-2027)[]

Seventh year started out with a tribute to Fox, during which, Persephone spoke. It hadn't been known to many how much the Slytherin respected the former Headmaster, but it was made clear by the time she stepped down. After this, Persephone decided that she would lay low for the rest of the year, determined to have a peaceful time for her last year and to focus on two things: Quidditch and her studies. She even went so far as to officially place a Jr. Editor in charge, Nora Clemments.

Despite this, Halloween brought with it a reign of terror as an evil organ which stole both people and voices took over the castle. Persephone did everything she could to avoid this organ and everything related to it. The Organ was eventually defeated by the students and professors combined and eventually, things returned to normal for the school. For a while.

As Winter arrived, the Prefects chose to once again hold a Fete, Persephone bringing back her kissing booth and managing to provide several first and second years with their first kisses, on the cheek of course. Pleasantly, no drama kicked off this time.

December 7th was the first Slytherin Quidditch match and despite anxiety based around the previous year, Persephone was excited for her team's match against Gryffindor. Unfortunately, the match was deemed inconclusive due to tampering with the snitch and a rematch was planned for later in the year.

Winter also brought with it the Winter Ball. Having sorted things out with Lysander once more, the pair attended the ball together. As usual, before the dance proper started awards were given out and Persephone was shocked to discover herself the recipient of the Grand Sorceress Award. It was the highest award given and Persephone was so touched she ended up leaving early, unable to stop shedding happy tears that ruined her makeup.

Perse's return to school after Winter break was met with more restrictions as the Forbidden Forest was proclaimed to be even MORE forbidden then usual. No one seemed to know why, only that if anyone went in they’d find themselves suspended. The papers also spoke of Aisling getting attacked and nearly killed at the Train station shortly after the Express left, something that left Persephone rather distraught.

Eventually February rolled around, bringing with it the Circus and Hearty Party. This year it was themed as Persephone's Garden, the Great Hall transformed into half a garden and half underworld. She attended the Hearty Party with Lysander as usual and the two danced the night away.

Soon after came Slytherin's next match again Hufflepuff and Slytherin saw yet another victory, taking them one step closer to the Quidditch Cup.

Springtime came and brought with it April showers to wash away the snow and to make the flowers grow. Also as Spring started, some people started to ignore the rules about the forest and went into it. Persephone ignored this, at least until discovering that Lex Ashworth, one of the younger years she looked after had been drug out there with his sister, Verity. After speaking to Lex, Persephone learned the details of what was going on in the forest. Agron Mordushku, presumed dead, had taken it over, claiming it for his own and killing many creatures in it. Speaking with Verity confirmed this and Persephone advised them both to stay away. Eventually the Ministry arrived and a barrier was placed around the Forest that would disintegrate anyone who crossed it.

In early April they were all brought into the Long Gallery and told that this group from the Ministry planned to go in and remove Agron from the Forest. They were all to be in the long gallery in case, things went bad and the man and his allies attacked the castle. They were also allowed to watch the forest from the transfiguration hallway windows. Throughout this, Persephone minded her own business, content to stay far from the fighting. That said, things did go wrong and the barrier fell, leading many professors to storm the Forest to aid the Ministry in the battle. Agron was defeated, though Hogsmeade burned as a result. Many students were allowed to travel out and assist in putting out the fire, but Persephone refused, instead choosing to celebrate the death of Agron Mordushku.

It was also in April that Persephone was walking to her usual location with Lysander and decided, in that very moment, to ask him to marry her. Despite the moment being interrupted by a first year Gryffindor, Lysander said yes, making Persephone quite happy. Unfortunately, despite wishing to tell best friend, Adam Fletcher, herself, someone else ruined the surprise, leading Adam to take it poorly. This also lead to Persephone's further hatred of Saffron's taste in men, as it had been George Macauley who told. Eventually, it came out that Adam still had feelings for Persephone and his anger had been rooted in heartbreak. For a while, Saffron tried to encourage Persephone and Fletcher together, however, after some time, this was dropped. Blame it on Fletcher.

Though this was not the end of the chaos of Persephone's final year, she chose to turn her focus elsewhere, specifically to her upcoming Quidditch matches. Before the next one arrived, however, Persephone was delivered a fat stack of letters, each one from a different Professional Quidditch Team offering her a position with them. Initially these were ignored, however when the second stack arrived during Sunday Lunch (one of which was a Howler from the Falmouth Falcons Manager), Persephone was left speechless. One of the letters was from the Holyhead Harpies, the team Persephone had loved from childhood. The contract attached was a five year one, offering Persephone a position as chaser for 2500 Galleons a month. Despite her hesitation, as she'd intended to go into wandcrafting, with encouragement from her friends, fiance, and her Head of House, Persephone signed the contract.

Eventually, Slytherin's match against Ravenclaw approached and like the Gryffindor match, it was a disaster, albeit of a different kind. With her seeker quitting to focus on grades, Persephone had been forced to play the position of seeker, rather than chaser. After frequent warnings to the Ravenclaw Seeker to stay within bounds, the referees Red Sparked her, meaning she would have to sit out for the rest of the match. Although Persephone was also given a green spark for the same issue, Ravenclaw disagreed with the call and after some deliberation with the Referees, Captain Casey Champion forfeited on behalf of his team. This left Persephone feeling conflicted. Despite still being in the running for the Quidditch Cup, she felt it was an undeserved victory and would have rathered the Ravenclaws to see the game out to the end. She didn't voice this opinion to anyone, in the name of being a good sport, and voiced support of Casey for doing what he felt best for his team. She also went so far as to bench Octavia Dechants from the final game for refusing to stop her insulting trash talk.

Slytherin's final match remained only two weeks away and Persephone spent that time on the pitch, nearly every day. Finally, the day arrived for the Gryffindor rematch. After giving a pep talk to her team before the match, Persephone stepped out onto the pitch for her final game. The match had been set as aggregate by the Referees, meaning it started with a score of 170-40 in favour of Slytherin. Despite this, Persephone felt as though she may have a panic attack. The match was close with both teams nearly catching the snitch. In the end, however, it was Gryffindor's seeker, Jayden Lukas who caught it. Regardless, the score remained in favour of Slytherin and the Cup was awarded to them. For the first time, Persephone had led her team to victory and she cried for it. Afterwards, Persephone attended an after party where she and several other students played Truth, Dare, or Hex. Despite having a great deal of fun, hostilities did arise between Persephone and Talula Shippe after.

After the final match, Persephone received another letter from the Holyhead Harpies manger, confirming her contract and informing her of practice expectations. It was then that Persephone took it upon herself to say goodbye to her team. Leaving Abigail Bluetooth the helmet she'd used and Octavia Dechants her old bludger bat, Persephone encouraged her teammates who weren't graduating to play together once more after she graduated.

As summer fast approached, the days continued rather peacefully, with Persephone attending the wedding of Aisling and Archie without incident. During this time, Persephone also formally met Darragh 'Danger Zone' Daly of International and Regional Quidditch fame and after a discussion with Lysander, it was agreed that they would open their relationship and she would begin to date Daly, despite the impending wedding. Eventually, Persephone said goodbye to her friends and graduated from school, moving on into her life as an adult.

2027[]

One of the first events of the summer saw Persephone and a group of friends obtaining new tattoos and piercings during a trip to Little Lamplight. Persephone got a few of both to celebrate her change into adulthood. After this, she had a house warming party that she hosted in the home she'd purchased with Lysander thanks to the money her adopted mother, Verenice Vitrac had given her for graduation. The party went off without a hitch, though things began to decline for Persephone's personal life after this.

While Quidditch was everything she had hoped, Persephone began to date Darragh Daly, a fact that began to lead to the deterioration of her relationship with Lysander. She enjoyed the time spent with Daly though it was notably impersonal and lead to her name in Witch Weekly more than she would like, though Lysander struggled with the insecurity this caused him. By the end of summer, the wedding was called off and Persephone and Lysander went their separate ways.

After the break up, Persephone tried to convince him to come back home. Concerned for her own wellbeing and unsure if things would work out, Lysander denied her and Persephone threw herself into Quidditch, ignoring her social life for months at a time. She was noted to have lost weight and was rarely seen outside of matches until eventually agreeing to see Daly for another date in November. The pair began to attend dates and Persephone felt that perhaps she was moving on from Lysander. That is, until running into him at the Christmas Market. Lysander asked Persephone to meet for tea and she agreed. During their meeting, Lysander asked her to consider the revival of their relationship. Nothing came of it at this time, though onlookers commented on the tension between the pair at the Little Lamplight Winter Open Dueling Tournament. Both attended this tournament as participants though only Persephone advanced to the finals (before being defeated by Giovani Gallo).

As the year came to a close, hostilities grew between Fletcher and Persephone once more, coming to a head at the latter's New Year's Party. Though no one knows what happened after Persephone drug him out of the house, Persephone and Fletcher did appear to be on better terms when they returned. This wasn't the only surprise to have come from this party though. Just as the clock struck midnight, Gwenaderin Ferox made a reappearance, sneaking into Persephone's house and preventing a New Year's kiss.

2028[]

The new year brought with it new changes as Persephone and Darragh officially entered a relationship. Though she was sure that this was what she wanted, Persephone was noted to have once again become less and less social as her mood and relationship seemed to deteriorate. Despite this, Persephone's Quidditch career continued to flourish, with her team moving into first place on the leaderboards and her name garnering more and more fame. By March, Persephone's 19th birthday was fast approaching and with it, the realisation that she was wasting her life after school. She attended the Black Lounge Dueling meeting where her path crossed with Lysander once more. After a duel with Bonnie that the latter won, the group, along with Aisling, attended the St. Paddy's party at the Crimson Fang. It was here that Lysander almost made a move, prompting the Harpy to reconsider their relationship once again. After a discussion with Darragh, Persephone took a week vacation camping to consider what it was she wanted out of life, and spend the full moon.

Eventually, after a nasty break up with Darragh, an attempt at rekindling the flame with Lysander, and a clear difference of personalities and goals once Persephone was arrested for on pitch brawling, it came to be that neither man was right for her and Persephone turned her focus to her team and her career. The Holyhead Harpies finished the 2027/2028 season in first place, taking home the British and Irish League Cup and qualifying for the 2028 European Cup. Though the team played their best and made it to the Final in Doda Pilii, Romania, they were unable to defeat the Appleby Arrows. At Quidditch anyhow, afterwards, they did manage to throw a beat down on the opposing team in a good old fashioned brawl. This proved especially cathartic for Persephone who had suffered the beaters Daphne Quinn and Turlough Parsons's comments regarding her status as a werewolf.

Upon returning to Britain, just a day before Persephone's planned Holyhead Harpies- #1 Losers party, Persephone arrived in Diagon Alley to see her cousin, Saffron Macauley, for tea. Unfortunately tea never happened as a riot broke out, spurred on by rumours that the goblins of Gringotts were stealing the gold that belonged to the hardworking people of the Wizarding world. Though it was unclear what happened, Persephone, Saffron, Maddy Hemlock, and Bonnie Nishi were all arrested though no clear charges were made. After a night in the cell, the girls were released, supposedly due to a lack of charges, though the truth remains unclear.

Eventually, Persephone found herself dating Adam Fletcher, only narrowly avoiding another slew of scandals by laying low and throwing all of her focus into her career. Asides from quidditch matches, parties, and small family & friend get togethers, little has happened for Persephone since then.

2029[]

The majority of 2029 was largely uneventful for Persephone who threw herself into her relationship and Quidditch. Over the months, her team ended up in second place in the British and Irish League which led to the girls qualifying for World Cup teams. Around the start of trials for the English team- Persephone's team of choice, Adam and Persephone decided it would be best to call it on their relationship. After a handful of fights where Adam proved he couldn't let go of the past and Persephone felt he couldn't treat her with the respect she demanded on the pitch, (as well as constant scheduling conflicts due to the pair's busy lifestyles) the two decided it would be best if they continued on as friends, rather than lovers. In reaction to this, Persephone took a trip to Japan offered by the Department of Magical Games and Sports with the intention to have fun- and throw herself into her career once more.

Physical appearance[]

"Those wouldn't happen to be... /Silver/ scars, would they? Not many reasons scars would twinkle like that..."
— Adalfink Fisher

Persephone stands around 5'10. Her physical fitness has improved with the playing of Quidditch, primarily as a result of the laps she runs each morning and other various workouts. Her hair is currently silver due to a mix of premature aging from lycanthropy and magic. Her face is angular with pouty lips and the small gap she once had in her front teeth has been magically fixed. Still, her canines are particularly elongated. Her skin is particularly pale, emphasizing the dark circles under her honey brown eyes from lack of sleep.

After her werewolf attack, Persephone now sports fresh looking pale scars across her face and hidden beneath her clothes. They glimmer with a hint of silver.

As of her fifth year, Persephone now sports a prosthetic in place of her right leg.

Post graduation, Persephone has been spotted with several new tattoos: a flowery piece that runs down her ribcage and reaches down to mid thigh, black geometric patterns down her arms, her sign and the moon phases on her back, and the moon phases down the back of her thigh. She also has both sides of her nose pierced, connected by a delicate silver chain and her tongue is pierced as well.

Personality and Traits[]

"You're a monster. The way you threaten people - I thought you were my friend. But you're just a big, hairy, ugly monster wearing a skin that you don't belong in. I'd rather deal with a werewolf than you any day. At least I never thought they were a good person."
—Amira Zidane

Persephone's personality has under gone quite a few changes as she struggles to figure out who she is. At the start of her third year she had been exactly as her wand predicted, mischievous and whimsical, though after meeting Gwen she has changed quite a bit. One thing has remained true of the girl though, she is loyal to a fault, willing to do whatever it takes to care for her friends.

Many would say Persephone is fearless, but this isn't the case. She fears letting down those closest to her, and seeing them get hurt. Moreso as they are few and far between. This means, she'll often do impulsive and dangerous things to protect these people, often putting herself in harm's way. Despite this, she has developed some sense of self preservation since losing her leg.

Persephone exhibits high intelligence when she puts her mind to it, though it is rare that she puts intellect before action. If she is afraid and unable to take action, however, she will obsess over gathering every tidbit of knowledge she can, trying to be as best prepared as possible.

Seph also exhibits a quick temper and is prone to violence. Without someone to keep her in line, Seph will readily lunge at anyone who insults herself, her family, or her friends. She is known to have an explosive temper, once describing her anger as 'blinding rage, hot as fire.'

Unlike her parents, Persephone feels no elitism about blood status, in fact, she thoroughly despises anyone who exhibits an elitist mindset. As such, you will never hear Persephone question someone's blood status.

Possessions[]

  • Wand: Persephone's current wand is Red Oak with Dragon Heartstring Core, it's length at 13 1/4 inches and slightly springy. She obtained it from Ollivander's in Diagon Alley after her previous one was cracked and splintered from heavy use during her time at Hogwarts.
  • Brooms: Persephone has three brooms that she utilises for her Quidditch career. They were tended and customised by Bonnie Nishi and each has it's own benefits and advantages.
  • Moonstone ring: A milky moonstone set in bright silver metal was always worn on Persephone's right ring finger. It was obtained during her fourth year to send messages between L.U.N.A. members. It was purchased in Hogsmeade, specially protean charmed, and closely matched several others made for top members. Even after the group fell inactive, Persephone continued to wear it in case anyone might need her.
  • Holyhead Harpies ring: A gold ring with the Holyhead Harpies emblem on it. All of her team sports the same.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Persephone isn't particularly close with her family, neither those of blood nor those adopted. Persephone often finds herself longing for the unconditional love of a family, but she is not particularly convinced that such a thing is possible. In her 7th year, Persephone found out that her father, Viktor Hyland had died at the hands of the dark wizard Agron Mordushku

Varius Corvus[]

Persephone has taken a special liking to the first year, often jumping up to his defense much to the first year's annoyance. He was one of her first close friends, regardless of their age difference, and she'll often do whatever he asks in the name of friendship. Varius seems to be one of the most adamant believers in Persephone's good nature.

/pulled from school/

John Penn[]

John was Persephone's very best friend early in her third year year, having been the one introducing her to Gwen and encouraging her to ask the Ravenclaw out. Though their friendship was a little difficult due to John's awkwardness around girls, they ended up being very close. While Persephone would do almost anything for John, the two have sort of drifted apart due to John's recent introverted habits.

/pulled from school/

Gwen Ferox[]

Gwen Ferox is... Persephone's very close friend and first girlfriend. Where Persephone is rage and violence and impulsive actions, Gwen is intellect and subterfuge. This makes the two complete opposites, though complimentary to one another. Persephone would do anything for Gwen, her affections for the girl rather strong, and she is determined that the Ravenclaw always knows she is not alone. Their relationship at times is rocky, but ultimately, Persephone considers her to be her royal hell counterpart.

Aryiana Novelli[]

While Persephone has a long list of enemies, Aryiana Novelli seems to be a primary. After hearing the girl snarkily attempt to implicate Gwen in an altercation, Persephone tongue-tied her, earning the ire of the blond Ravenclaw. During Persephone's third year, the two decided to put their dislike for one another aside in favor of school unity against the Ministry take over. Since then, however there have been a host of troubles centering around the two girls' identities as werewolves.

  • It’s as if the Slytherins are as snuggly as the Gryffindors, at least Fletcher and Hyland were seen sharing a heart to heart in the common room.

  • Speaking of the trouble with Vitrac, is that why Gwen Ferox has been walking around exhausted and puffy in the eyes?
  • Word is, Persephone Hyland Vitrac was seen running through the castle, gathering up all copies of last week’s issue of Rumour Has It.
